The Virginia Federation of Republican Women (VFRW) is a member of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW).  Founded in 1938, the Federation is a grassroots organization with 100,000 members and 1,825 local clubs nationwide.  Our primary goal is to promote Conservative values and candidates.  We strengthen the Republican Party by recruiting, training and electing candidates; advocating the Party’s philosopy and initiatives; and by empowering women of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds in the political process.

In April 1983, Hanoverians Myrtle Murray and Frances Walker met with Mr.  Frank Hargrove to get instruction on organizing a Republican women’s club for  Hanover County. A series of meetings were held with the founding members to  organize the group and its goals, setting the stage for more than 25 years of  service to our community and the Republican Party.

The founding members were: Myrtle Murray, Frances Walker, Hazel Raeburn,  Phyllis Wasylyk, Gen Clifton, Mildred Sawyer, Helen Carter, and Margaret  Washington. These ladies, and many others over the years, embody the spirit of  HRWC and we value their contributions and service.

HRWC is committed to volunteerism and we support many familiar local causes.  We are
also actively involved with the Young Republican Clubs at Hanover’s high  schools. We
believe that educating youth on state and national political  processes, as well as encouraging participation, is essential.

HRWC meetings are held monthly and we are flattered to be able to welcome  there many of Virginia’s Republican representatives as speakers. Delegates,  Senators, and Attorneys General honor us with their enthusiasm and time for our  club, and it is our pleasure to support the campaigns of these fine folks. Under  the leadership of our new club President, Liza Bradford, we look forward to  another great year of service to our nation and to the Republican leaders that  work for all of us.
