Community Relations

The Hanover Republican Women's Club has been both growing and giving in the community this past year!  Each month the ladies have contributed to a charity I have recommended.  My recommendations came from charities that are near and dear to my heart, as well as charities that our members have recommended.

We started off the year with contributions to the Local Food Bank and the Hanover Humane Society.  We also made donations to the USO and Wounded Warriors.  One of our most successful charities was Noah's Children which is Central Virginia's first and only pediatric hospice and palliative programs.  The ladies contributed baby clothes, food, toys, backpacks and gift cards for the families who struggle through this very difficult time.

With a break during the summer months, we finished up the year with contributions to the Food Bank to stock the shelves for the Holidays, and we made a monetary contribution to the Hanover Christmas Mother.

Senator Ryan McDougle Speaks to Hanover Republican Women’s Club

Senator Ryan McDougle, State  Senator from the 4th district, spoke at  the recent
HRWC meeting.  His  insightful observations regarding the last election and the impact on our county and state were of great interest to the HRWC members. The question and answer period that followed, allowed members to express their concerns to Senator McDougle.  Accompanying Senator McDougle was his lovely and accomplished wife Robyn.

The HRWC seeks to educate its membership through meaningful discussion on important legislative matters and speakers like Senator McDougle are very much appreciated.

Over 100 Christmas Cards with messages from the members were collected to be sent to our servicemen and women. Items for the Food Bank were also collected.

The next  HRWC meeting will be held at the Ashcreek Clubhouse on  December 11 at 6:30pm.  Members will again collect food for the needy and accept donations for the Christmas Mother’s fund.

Hanover Tomato Festival July 14, 2012

Thanks to all of the Hanover Republican Committee members that volunteered this weekend for two major events!! Not only was the Hanover Tomato Festival well-staffed with volunteers from beginning to end but we also were able to beef up the ranks of protestors lining Mountain Road to send President Obama strong messages regarding the job (or lack there of) he is doing for us! Jim Smyers and Liza Bradford managed to work both events! Now that’s commitment.

Susan Allen paid a visit to the Tomato Festival and Angela Kelly-Wiecek introduced her to many of the small business owners at the festival.

We have much work to do in the 16 weeks until Election Day. The Romney Victory Center is now open on Parham Road across from Tucker High School. As soon as the hours are posted I will let you know. Their phone number is 239-0119. You can access their website via rpv.org.

Also, we are planning some local phone banking this summer. Our first task will be to identify committed Republicans to help with the many tasks of running a successful campaign such as poll watching, precinct staffing, get out the vote activities and the like. Our second task will be to identify likely voters for the Republican ticket and make sure they cast their ballots on November 6th.

Stay tuned!!
Nancy Russell
HCRC Chair
